Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, famous for it's canals, it's breathtaking architecture and it's romantic setting. Millions of people visit Venice each and every year, drawn by the beautiful Saint Mark's Square (fronted by the Basilica of Saint Mark and the Doge's Palace), the gondola transportation and the fantastic food and shopping. Although an island itself, Venice can be reached by car via the Ponte della Liberte over the lagoon, though all automobiles must be parked on the outskirts of Venice proper - the rest of the island is entirely pedestrianized. In the hinterland behind Venice, however, there are a huge array of towns and villages worth exploring - Treviso and Padova are easily accessible by car, as is Chioggia further south down the coast.

Venice is serviced by two airports, Venezia Marco Polo and Sant'Angelo Treviso (Antonio Canova), the latter of which is predominately used by low-cost airlines such as Ryan Air. Marco Polo International is one of Italy's busiest airports, receiving over seven million passengers annually into its single large terminal. British Airways, Easy Jet, Jet2.com and BMI all offer flights in and out of the airport. Both Marco Polo and Treviso Airports offer car rental facilities; Marco Polo hosts Hertz, Europcar, Avis, Sixt, Budget, Thrifty and more whilst Treviso has Avis, Europcar, Budget and Hertz amongst it's companies. If travelling towards Venice from Treviso it is advisable to take the SR53 east to Via Treviso Mare. This road will eventually merge with the A27 Autostrada d'Alemagna which in turn will merge with the A4/E70, taking you towards the Venetian causeway.
